Pride, Conference and Doughnuts!

I started a blog post on pride. I honestly did. It was long and boring. So I will sum it up for you.
I have discovered I am a very prideful person. I am going to try harder not to be. :)
There you go!
(Did you know it's ok to accept advice or criticism from someone who is not perfect(well at least better than you) at the thing which they are giving advice about??? I've been thinking a lot about this topic lately. It truly is a matter of pride and humility.

Anyway!

On to LDS General Conference. Wasn't it great?!?

I feel kind of bad that soo many of the talks were written and given especially for ME, but hopefully the rest of you were able to glean some helpful stuff out of them too. :)

AND FINALLY

Doughnuts!

It's a Conference tradition. :)

Unfortunately, I lost my recipe. So a month or so ago, I tried out a couple of similar recipes which I thought could be it. They weren't!
So this weekend I tried out a few more. Just let me tell you, baking doughnuts instead of frying them should not even be thought about. I read comments like, "Just as delicious!" "Melt in your mouth good," "Couldn't even tell the difference!"
If you like a tasty breadstick with frosting, or glaze, by all means go ahead and bake that doughnut.
You would not even know it was suppose to be a doughnut so maybe that's why they can't tell the difference. Ugh!

Disclaimer: Oh! I forgot. I am NOT talking about cake (gulp) doughnuts here. Sorry, it's hard for me even to say cake(gulp, gulp) doughnuts without dry heaving. We're talking raised yeast doughnuts.  You can bake those nasty other kind all ya want, and I'm sure they'd taste just as bad...I mean good, or whatever.

Here's the best recipe, I have tried.

Ingredients

1/2 c  water, warm (not hot)
2 pkg active dry yeast
3/4 c  milk, lukewarm
1/4 c sugar
1 tsp salt
4 c all-purpose flour, sifted
1/3 c  shortening
2  eggs
GLAZE
1 Tbsp  water, warm (may need more to thin, but thicker is better)
1/2 tsp    vanilla
1 c  confectioners' sugar, sifted

Yeah, you better google the directions, they are lengthyyyy. (http://www.justapinch.com/recipes/dessert/cake/moms-raised-doughnuts-3.html
(I once heard this horrible rumor, that *certain people(I won't name names right here) ONLY get on my blog for my recipes. :'( (You should just bookmark this link.)
*Kelli, Jake
:P

I also made apple fritters(use a mild apple) and Boston Creme's with this recipe. Yummy!
Barry made me REAL vanilla pudding to stuff the Boston's with.
Here's the chocolate glaze recipe. Because it really is the best I have EVER had.
Oh never mind. (Grrr) Here's the link http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/alton-brown/chocolate-doughnut-glaze-recipe.html and I love to top doughnuts with Burnt Butter Frosting. That's probably the kid's favorite. It's to die of.(not a typo) BUT sooo good! :)

P.S. You may be saying, those don't look soo good. Well they are the baked ones. Baked=Leftovers.
I put them nicely on a plate and left them on the table to see if they would tempt anyone. I KNOW Emmie would be willing to at least lick off the frosting if it comes to that.

Happy Baking!
