(I was sicker than a dog the first two days of camping, then I got better, then I got sick all over again and I still feel crappy, so it's taken me awhile to put some pictures up. Sorry ....really.)(Soo, I had a nasty relapse of the sickness, after typing this up, and then lost my card reader...... so it's really been awhile)
I did not expect Moab to be so awesome. I kind of thought people went there instead of the Grand Canyon because it was closer.... or they just wanted to mountain bike or something. I really didn't know a lot about it.
Before we left I did some research and some planning. We decided to visit Arches National Park and Canyonlands National Park over the space of 4 days.
We booked a silly cabin at an RV park to stay in. I say silly, because a tiny structure made out of logs in the middle of a parking lot, by the side of a highway, really isn't a cabin. :) Though, I'm glad we did because it was the only place that allows you to have as many kids as we do without paying an extra 150$ a night for an additional room. Eeek! Now I know why people stay in those things, I always wondered......:D They have a big restroom facilities, showers, a swimming pool, a store, playground, miniature golf course.... etc
Before leaving home, I researched family friendly hikes and activities at the Parks and surrounding areas.
I combined all my research together and printed it all out. We also bought a small guide-book with information on hiking in Moab. Perhaps you'd like to borrow it? :D
We planned to buy a bigger vehicle or a car topper before we left.
Luckily a friend offered to let us borrow their car topper, so it worked out perfectly.
I think we'll definitely be invested in one in the future.
....right after we replace the dishwasher and the washing machine that broke the day we came home...
(grrrrr)
We broke up our trip by stopping at Grandma's for a couple days and then staying overnight at Jeana's before we setout for Moab. She was kind enough to let us invade her new big beautiful house. We had never been there before so we went on a little walk that evening around the neighborhood. The view of the moutains is beautiful. We left the next morning, stopping in Price for a lunch and to stretch our legs on an ancient looking playground. The slides were huge and metal and FAST.
We arrived in Moab late afternoon. The kid's wanted to go swimming right off. I wasn't crazy, and feeling quite sick, so I sat out with Owen and dipped his chubby big feet in the pool every once in a while to cool him off. Later we went grocery shopping, played on the playground and went to bed early so we would be well rested for a full day of hiking in the morning.
Our first day of hiking was at Arches:
We picked Delicate Arch for our first hike. It was NOT an easy hike. Okay, it was NOT an easy hike with kids and it was LONG. But I enjoyed it.
